Kirkland & Ellis has promoted five new partners each in Hong Kong and London as part of a global round that has seen 84 make the grade.
The five newly promoted partners in Hong Kong are Matthew Gerber, Stephanie Tang and Steven Tran in corporate, Carol Liu in private investment funds and Jamii Quoc in M&A.
In London, Justin Hutchinson and Sava Savov in corproate, John MacGarty in private funds, Samuel Norris in debt finance and Shannon Yavorsky in intellectual property have all been promoted to partners.
The promotions are part of a round that has seen all the firm’s offices apart from Shanghai receive at least one new partner. They became effective on 1 October.
Commenting on the Hong Kong promotions local partner Dominic Tsun said “it demonstrates Kirkland’s commitment to continuing to invest in Hong Kong and Shanghai as the firm prepares to expand to Beijing”.
Kirkland’s Hong Kong office was established in 2006 and launched a Hong Kong law practice in August 2011 following the hire of seven partners from a trio of top tier rivals (9 August 2011).
