It’s always fascinating to find out how much other people are getting paid. And the revelation that marketing directors at City firms can earn as much as £477,000 per year certainly has readers talking.
The survey, conducted by marketing recruitment consultancy Carter Murray, found that marketing chiefs at the top 20 firms in The Lawyer UK 200 earn a base salary of between £170,000 and £345,000, with bonuses ranging from £30,000 to £132,000.
The story sparked ferocious debate, as commenters argued for and against the merits of marketing staff at City firms with equal enthusiasm.
However, marketing chiefs clearly aren’t the only ones with earning power in the legal profession. A separate survey by BCL Legal revealed that in-house salaries and bonuses rose in the regions once again last year, with 73 per cent of respondents in Yorkshire and the North East seeing an uptick in their remuneration in 2013/14.
The Serious Fraud Office ended its record battle with Vincent Tchenguiz after agreeing to settle his £200m damages claim for £3m. Meanwhile, in Paris, a White & Case partner is facing a ‘moral harassment’ case brought by a former associate employed by the firm in the early 2000s.
It was a week of swings and roundabouts for Eversheds, which won a first-time spot on Vodafone’s revamped panel but lost its mandate from Clydesdale Bank as it cut its roster from 13 to seven. Harper Macleod, Thomas Eggar and Norton Rose Fulbright were also cut from the bank’s panel.
Still, at least Norton Rose Fulbright can take comfort in the fact its recent merger makes it comparable to a Cosmopolitan cocktail - according to research by brand consultancy Intangible Business. Other honours go to DWF, which bears a brand resemblance to a Mojito, and the Martini-like Shakespeares.
