All of Eversheds’ spring qualifiers will stay with the firm post-qualification.
Each of the seven trainees was on the top 20 firm’s Time to Count scheme, allowing those who had paralegalled before their training contracts to qualify after 18 months, instead of the usual two years.
The firm revealed a 100 per cent retention rate at this time last year for all the ex-paralegals on the scheme. Eversheds does not have a formal spring intake but instead allows former paralegals to qualify during the period while those on its formal trainee scheme qualify during the autumn.
Last autumn’s rate was 84 per cent, with 64 of 76 trainees staying with the firm. In autumn 2011, 87 per cent, or 33 of 38, trainees were retained.
In 2011, twelve qualified into corporate and commercial, three qualified into HR and pensions, ten into litigation and eight into real estate with two others qualifying into unspecified areas. In 2012, 20 qualified into corporate and commercial, ten into HR and pensions, 22 into litigation and eight into real estate, with four qualifying into unspecified areas.
The firm announced a round of redundancies in January, stating that up to 166 jobs were at risk across Eversheds’ UK and Asia offices, with the firm’s Copenhagen office set to disappear altogether, as the firm realigns itself under its new strategy (24 January 2013).
