Vaudoyer joined Freshfields in 1988 and was made a partner in the tax department two years later. He was managing partner of the Paris office between 1997 and 2000.
Hogan France managing partner Bill Curtin said: "We're really excited about this. James will be fitting into the corporate transactions practice and will also bring significant capability of working on real estate transactions."
When Vaudoyer joins Hogan in August he will be reunited with former Freshfields colleagues IP partner Xavier Buffet Delmas and corporate partner Isabelle MacElhone.
Freshfields France managing partner Antoine Colonna d'Istria said: "It's a pity that James is leaving and I hope that he'll be happy at Hogan. I think it's business as usual here."
