Government-backed mutual reinsurer Pool Re has appointed Hogan Lovells partner Christian Wells as company secretary and general counsel following the firm’s reappointment of the reinsurer’s incumbent legal chief Helen Chapman.
Chapman has spent 18 months in the role having joined Pool Re from Hogan Lovells legacy firm Lovells, where she worked for nine years. She rejoined the firm’s insurance group on Monday (25 June), with Wells currently dividing his time between the firm and Pool Re. From October Wells will spend four days a week in-house.
The appointments were not connected, the firm said.
At Hogan Lovells Chapman will focus on non-contentious insurance and reinsurance work, advising on all aspects of insurance law and regulation in the UK. She has a particular strength in the design and drafting of insurance and reinsurance products and distribution arrangements.
Hogan Lovells litigation chief Patrick Sherrington said: “Helen has extensive experience of contentious and non-contentious matters in the insurance and reinsurance sector and she’s an important part of our strategy to grow the insurance practice at Hogan Lovells.”
