He will take over as sole chairman from joint incumbents Claudette Christian and John Young on 1 May, serving a three-year term. Young is set to retire from Hogan Lovells at the end of April, while New York-based Christian is returning to full-time practice as a finance partner.
The role of chair will see Cheffings retain a place on Hogan Lovells’ board. He is also currently chair of the firm’s partner admission committee and a member of its audit committee.
The nomination process for the position of chairman began in December last year (1 December 2011). The move to a sole chairman was envisaged at the time of the merger between Hogan & Hartson and Lovells in May 2010.
