Civil liberties and personal injury specialist Hodge Jones & Allen, best known for taking on the Government and local authorities in headline-grabbing cases, made its debut in the UK 200 last year.
The firm has almost 200 staff, including 116 fee-earners and 27 partners. Just three of the partners are full equity, although there are another six fixed-share partners. Last year this group shared a net profit of £2.02m, 46 per cent higher than the previous year’s £1.4m. The equity ranged from £85,000 to £760,000.
Turnover was up by 10 per cent in the 2011–12 financial year, from £10.6m to £11.74m. Senior partner Patrick Allen said the firm was budgeting for a similar rise for the current year. The figures were helped by almost having paid off the costs of its relocation to Euston five years ago, although Allen said revenues were also boosted by departments including personal injury (up by £500,000) and civil liberties (up by £100,000) standing out.
During the year partner Jocelyn Cockburn was crowned partner of the year at The Lawyer Awards in recognition of her outstanding civil liberties work.
