Higgs & Sons

UK Top 200 position: 166

Turnover at Higgs & Sons hit £12.6m in the financial year ending 31 October, up by 13 per cent on 2010–11’s £11.2m.

The firm credits the boost to an increase in all nine of its practice areas, with 2011–12 proving a particularly good year for commercial property and clinical negligence.

The partner and equity partner headcounts stood still at 29 and 16 respectively in the 2011–12 financial year, with all of the 16 equity partners earning an equal amount thanks to the firm’s lockstep system. On this system, partners who have been on the lockstep for three years earn the same profit share.

Last summer saw the firm form a two-year partnership with Aston Business School to work on a knowledge transfer partnership (KTP) research project into how legal firms can build greater client loyalty. Current clients include London & Cambridge Properties and car hire company Avis.
