Niche City insurance firm Hextall Erskine is taking over Sussex firm Castle & Co in a bid to broaden its practice.
The three new partners - husband and wife team John and Branwen Castle and partner Michael Scampton - will add expertise in commercial property, private client and corporate work, complementing the firm's two current private client and corporate partners. Hextalls now has 25 per cent of the partnership doing non-insurance work, though insurance will still account for around 80 per cent of turnover. The merger comes in the wake of four partner departures from the firm earlier this year, blamed largely on falling profitability. Head of corporate and private client at the firm Anthony Millson said: "The issue is that for some time now the firm has majored on insurance work - it's 90 per cent of our practice. It's been the aim to expand the non-insurance part of the practice to give more of a balance."
