…Meanwhile, Herbert Smith’s practice focus has seen little change, with corporate again gaining the largest number of new partners.
The group bagged a whopping seven of the new places in the equity, following two years of four new partners each time.
Notably, however, just one of those is based in London, with the Paris and Hong Kong corporate practices each gaining two new partners and Beijing and Tokyo receiving one new corporate partner apiece.
As mentioned in our previous Herbert Smith blog post (see below), the firm’s international associates are finally starting to win places on the equity sphere.
Unsurprisingly, given current market conditions the firm has also sought to swell its litigation and arbitration ranks after two years of promoting just one to the practice, upping that number to five this time around.
Elsewhere, the finance team, which received one new partner last year and two the year before, has been boosted with two promotions.
The real estate group - which saw three promotions in 2006-07, one in 2005-06 and two in 2004-05 - gained two new partners.
The firm’s employment practice has been favoured for the second year running with one new partner, while competition, which has not seen a partner promotion since the 2004-05 round, has also been boosted by one.
Partnership prospects:
International - hot, hot , hot
Corporate - sunny
Litigation - very sunny
Anything else - fair to middling
