Herbert Smith and SJ Berwin were rejoicing last week after acting on the £175m sale of the former Middlesex Hospital site. The three-acre site is one of the largest West End blocks ever sold and marks a landmark deal for both firms. For SJ Berwin there is likely to be more to come from the transaction, with client Candy & Candy, the outlandish interior design company, appointed as development manager and interior designer for the planned mixed-use scheme. Indeed, SJ Berwin first got a look-in at the deal through Candy & Candy, which has a business link to the purchasing consortium, advised by Bryan Pickup and Pat Jones. Herbert Smith ace Chris de Pury advised the vendor, the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
