Herbert Smith senior partner David Gold will not seek a second term in the role, meaning the firm will begin the process of finding a successor in November.
Gold began his five-year term as senior partner in May 2005 after seeing off competition from then practice partner Richard Fleck.
Managing partner David Willis, who was nominated for the role by Gold last year, will see his term extended by a year as part of the management changes.
When the managing partner position was created last April it was expected that Willis’s term would end at the same time as Gold’s.
Willis said: “The original proposition was that I was appointed at David Gold’s suggestion. My term was to run out when his did, but it will now run until 30 April 2011.”
As managing partner Willis chairs the firm’s executive committee, while Gold is responsible for the LLP council.
It is expected that Gold will return to the firm’s litigation practice, which he ran prior to being elected senior partner, next May.
