Herbert Smith has made a rare lateral hire into its trusts and charities group, taking on Bircham Dyson Bell’s former managing partner Michael Wood.
Wood will join the firm as a consultant on 11 December after 30 years at Birchams. He retired from the Bircham partnership earlier this year and has acted as an independent consultant since then.
Wood’s primary focus was tax planning for high net worth individuals and families.
As a consultant at Herbert Smith, he will assist with internal education for the trusts and charities group, as well as being involved in fee earning and business development.
Trusts and charities group head John Wood said in a statement: “[Wood’s] high standing with clients and in the private banking sector will help grow further our market profile, and this breadth of experience will be a considerable asset which all the group's lawyers will look to call upon."
Herbert Smith has two partners and four associates in its trusts and charities group.
