Herbert Smith is strengthening its Middle East presence with one partner transferring from Paris and another two set to move across in the summer.
The firm opened its Dubai office under former Norton Rose partners Nadim Khan and Zubair Mir in March.
While their focus is on finance, the firm has moved Paris-based international projects partner Neil Brimson to the emirate with David Laurence due to join him in the summer. Though he has wide experience of the Tokyo market Laurence is currently working out of Herbert Smith’s London office.
London partner Stephen Rayfield, who has experience of general M&A as well as projects, will join the pair.
The Dubai office will be further strengthened later in the year when litigation partner Craig Shepherd moves out to set up a disputes practice. Currently based in London, until last September Shepherd headed Herbert Smith’s construction and arbitration practice in Hong Kong.
Shepherd will be based permanently in Dubai and will receive back up from former partner Charles Plant, who will visit the emirate on a regular basis as a consultant.
