Herbert Smith lawyer Ronit Kreisberger has joined Monckton Chambers as a barrister rather than joining the firm's in-house advocacy unit.
Kreisberger said that, with her experience in dealing with commercial clients on EU and UK competition law, she preferred to join the bar.
"As a competition litigator, I found that I wanted to focus on advocacy in my field of expertise," she said. "I took the view that this was best achieved by transferring my practice to the bar. Once I decided to make the move, Monckton was the natural choice."
Herbert Smith's in-house advocacy unit was launched in May 2005. The unit has been viewed sceptically by the bar and rival City firms, which claim it cannot hope to provide all of the services of an independent chambers.
Kreisberger, who was a senior associate and qualified solicitor-advocate within Herbert Smith's competition and regulation department, accepted Monckton's offer of tenancy last week. She is a specialist in competition litigation, regulatory investigations into anti-competitive agreements and merger clearance work.
A Herbert Smith spokesperson said Kreisberger wanted to join a specialist competition chambers.
