Herbies hires former Links partner for capital markets team

Former Linklaters US securities partner Steve Thierbach has joined Herbert Smith’s London-based global capital markets practice.

Thierbach was Linklaters’ first solely US-qualified partner when he joined the magic circle firm’s City base from Sullivan & Cromwell in 1995. He left last month (15 February 2010).

He helped found the US securities practice at Linklaters and listed Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse among his stable of clients, having acted for both issuers and underwriters on debt and equity transactions.

Thierbach will join Herbert Smith next month and will work closely with global head of capital markets Jim Wickenden.

“Many of us have known Steve for a number of years and he has a number of close friends at Herbert Smith,” said Wickenden. “We know that he’ll be a great fit with our culture and our ambitions, and we’re really looking forward to Steve joining us.”

Thierbach’s exit leaves Cecil Quillen as leader of Linklaters’ US securities team.
