Herbies favours disputes associates with new promotions

Herbert Smith announced today (21 March) that is has ramped up it dispute resolution practice with more than half of its internal promotions to partnership this year being in the contentious area.

The top-ten firm made up five of its nine senior associates in the litigation, arbitration and contentious financial regulation practice.

This is a stark contrast to last year, where only one of the nine promotions were in litigation with the bulk being in the corporate arena.

Senior associates Justin D’Agostino, Tim Mak, Sebastian Moore, Nick Peacock and Nusrat Zar will be made up to partners on 1 April in the litigation and arbitration practice.

Nick Moore and Adam Wells will boost the corporate partnership, while Roderick Morton become a partner in employment, trusts and pensions and Simon Price in real estate.

David Gold, senior partner at Herbert Smith, said the boost in litigation will complement the transactional focus of the majority of those promoted in last year’s round.

In 2005, the firm’s disputes team suffered an associate exodus with 25 leaving the firm but the firm has countered this with a number of initiatives aimed at better retention.
