Herbert Smith puts emphasis on Asia with 13 promotions

The appointments cover seven of the firm’s offices and a wide range of global transactional and contentious practices.

The number of promotions is down from 2010, when Herbert Smith made up 18 new partners.

New partners in London are Amanda Hale, technology, media and telecommuniciations; Daniel Hudson, corporate crime and investigations; Rupert Lewis, banking litigation; Andrew Moir, intellectual property; Andre Pretorius, EU and competition; and David Rosen, real estate.

Promotions across the rest of the firm include Melody Chen, a specialist in US securities based in Beijing; Alberto Frasquet, corporate, Madrid; Emma Kratochvilova, contentious construction, Tokyo; Danila Logofet, energy, Moscow; and energy lawyer Hilary Lau and corporate specialist Jason Sung, both based in Hong Kong.

Islamic finance lawyer Adil Hussain, who is currently on secondment to Saudi Arabian associated firm Al Ghazzawi Professional Association, is also promoted.

In a statement, Herbert Smith senior partner Jonathan Scott said: “The international spread of the promotions reflects the changing shape of the global economy, the importance of emerging markets and clients’ needs to have advisers across the business centres of Europe, the Middle East and Asia.”
