Herbert Smith advised BNP Paribas and Standard Chartered Bank as lenders of a $1bn (£529.68m) bridge facility to Addax Petroleum Corporation. The firm also advised Merrill Lynch, the lead underwriter on the C$354m (£167.4m) public offering of Addax shares. The bridge facility and share offer will be used to finance Addax's acquisition of Pan-Ocean Energy Corporation, and to refinance existing debt at Addax and the target company. The Herbert Smith team was led by acquisition finance partner Ian Yeo. Canadian firm Fasken Martineau and Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker advised Addax. Carey Olsen advised the banks on Jersey law, and Etude Gilbert Noel advised them on Mauritian law.
