Henderson Boyd beats rivals to five-year BT legal bonanza
Scottish mid-sizer Henderson Boyd Jackson (HBJ) has scooped five rival firms to win a five-year contract for all of BT’s legal work north of the border.
The competitive tender completed in October, with the firm officially beginning work for BT on November.
BT would not comment on the five firms that took part in the beauty parade, although McGrigors and Morrisons have both handled its property work previously.
Edinburgh and Glasgow-based HBJ has also advised BT for several years, primarily on litigation matters such as personal injury and network damage disputes. The win will add property and corporate to its portfolio.
A team including Miles Ede in property, David Kirchin in corporate, Jenny Grant in litigation and Bill Stark in debt recovery will focus on the new client, with litigator Campbell Normand as client relationship partner.
Miles Jobling, head of legal services at BT Wholesale, who ran the tender, told The Lawyer that BT had been looking to consolidate its legal suppliers in Scotland following the completion of its network rollout.
A similar review was completed in June 2003, leaving Bird & Bird, Linklaters and Wragge & Co on its panel and appointing Addleshaw Goddard and Allen & Overy for the first time.
