Berrymans Lace Mawer's Manchester office is losing the head of its commercial litigation department as he leaves to set up a new firm.
Tony Brook, who has been with the firm for more than 15 years, is setting up a specialist commercial litigation practice called Mexus with Chris Pugh, a salaried partner at Berrymans.
Also joining the new practice is the former head of property at Manchester-based Turner Parkinson, Des O'Driscoll, who left the firm more than two months ago.
The departures will leave Berrymans' Manchester office with only one partner, Mark Benson, in the commercial litigation department.
Brook and Pugh are taking administration staff and newly qualified lawyers with them but Nigel Roden, senior partner at Berrymans in Manchester, was unsure of the numbers.
Roden says: "They have gone off to be flavour of the month in commercial litigation. Obviously we didn't want it to happen but they wanted to go off and be in charge of their own destination."
Roden adds that the firm will be promoting people internally to fill the gap left by the departures.
Brook and Pugh were unavailable for comment.
