Jersey's Hatstone makes its first entry in the Top 30 after a year of expansion. While the bulk of Hatstone's operations are based in Jersey, it is also present in more unusual jurisdictions: Panama, South Africa and a small representative presence in Finland and Scotland. The Panama and South Africa launches were prompted by demand from clients and intermediaries, and the firm believes the offices allow it to meet international clients more regularly.
With several hires over the year, Hatstone fields a team of five partners and 16 other lawyers. This gives it one of the higher partner-to-associate ratios in the Top 30 of 1:3.2. Its three-strong equity partnership, meanwhile, means the firm's leverage is even higher, at 1:6.
Technology was a key area of investment over the year. Hatstone implemented a new document management system in April and a new email server in February. Together, the initiatives have helped the firm increase productivity as well as security on mobile devices. Meanwhile, a new website was launched in September.
The firm plans to promote its Latin American and South African practices, while back in Jersey the litigation practice and a recently launched wills and probate practice will be the focus.
