Glasgow firm Harper Macleod is launching the first online advice centre for internet start-ups north of the border, backed by London firm Field Fisher Waterhouse.
The 15-partner Scottish firm has developed the service, known as dotcomstartup, to provide support for companies wanting to move their businesses onto the internet.
Managing partner Lorne Crerar says: "It is an initiative which takes away the hassle of setting up and developing an internet business.
"The service will provide advice on a wide range of key issues including company formation, terms and conditions, trademarks, branding, advertising and employment issues.
"Specific transactions will be processed for a fixed fee which will assist businesses with their budget forecasts."
Field Fisher, which launched its own service called Incubator last year (The Lawyer, 6 September 1999), has been advising Harper Macleod in the development.
Crerar says: "There will be an explosion of e-commerce business in Scotland over the next few years and it is essential that expert legal advice is readily available online."
