Harneys hires Freshfields lawyer as it opens in Uruguay

The Montevideo base will be led by partner Marco Martins, head of Harneys’ Latin American practice.

Harneys also announced the hire of Tim Dawson, a senior associate from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Dawson joins Harneys’ Cayman office but will work within the Latin America group. He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and previously lived and worked in Brazil.

Martins said Uruguay was the most efficient and effective choice for a Latin American office due to its low cost and business-friendly environment.

He will divide his time between Harneys’ Cayman office and Montevideo. An associate, a paralegal and a business development associate will also move to Uruguay.

Harneys has expanded rapidly this year, adding an office in Cyprus in April as well as a number of associate-level lateral hires.
