Hammonds has recruited a barrister for its safety, health and environment (SHE) group, as well as two new lawyers as the firm takes the first steps of its comeback strategy.
Barrister Penny Jewkes specialises in planning and environmental law is joining the firm’s SHE group in London.
Most recently Jewkes has been working for the consultancy Envirolink advising regional firms and local authorities. She was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1974 and in England in 1978, and spent five years working for Eversheds in their planning and environmental team.
The firm has also appointed assistants James Thompson and Richard Weatherhogg, who will be based in the firm’s Leeds and London offices.
Thompson qualified with Northern Rock in 2000 before joining Eversheds’ Newcastle office, where he specialised in providing specialist regulatory and corporate criminal advice.
Weatherhogg has come from Travers Smith, where he provided environmental advice on corporate transactions. He trained and qualified at Lovells, and joined the firm's environment team on qualification in 1996.
