Hammonds has scooped an unprecedented lateral hire in Birmingham, taking litigation partner Ann Benzimra to boost its own Midlands practice.
Benzimra is believed to be the first partner to be lured from Wragges by a regional rival. At Hammonds she will lead the Birmingham litigation team, taking over from Digby Rose. Rose has announced his decision to take early retirement in 2005.
Commenting on her appointment, Benzimra said: “Hammonds’ strong client base and integrated international network of offices were obvious attractions but the investment the firm has made in Birmingham is also impressive. Midlands clients will undoubtedly benefit from a reinvigorated local office with direct access to Hammonds' substantial international presence. This is a remarkable opportunity for me to help develop this exciting business.”
Peter Crossley, national head of commercial dispute resolution, added: “Ann's recruitment represents a further significant investment by the firm in our Birmingham office and she will be a major asset in helping us to expand our dispute resolution practice in the Midlands and both nationally and internationally.”
