Shadow Attorney General Bill Cash MP has been taken on by Halliwell Landau as a full-time consultant.
His remuneration, which he will declare in the House of Commons Register of Members' Interests when Parliament returns in mid-0ctober, is expected to be substantial, particularly as he has just relinquished a former consultancy arrangement with RadcliffesLeBrasseur. Cash, the Conservative MP for Stone, will be paid an annual salary by Halliwells, which is aiming to offer his services to corporates that need advice on developments in European and UK legislation.
Cash also has his own law firm, William Cash & Co, which is registered with the Law Society. He told The Lawyer that the consultancy arrangement with Halliwells will be an exclusive one. "I've been practising since 1967, I have a lot of very in-depth experience advising regulatory authorities, trade associations and multi-nationals and it's been my intention for some time to use my legal knowledge with the right firm. Halliwells is a very go-ahead firm that is really expanding," he said.
Cash has been Shadow Attorney General since 2001 and has been responsible for shadowing Constitutional Affairs in the House of Commons since June this year, following Labour's introduction of sweeping changes to the judicial and legal system.
