Halliwells has made its first lateral hire in Liverpool since merging with local firm Cuff Roberts at the beginning of the year.
Corporate partner Paul Jefferson joins Halliwells from DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary's Liverpool office, where he has been a partner for the past five years. His departure is the first UK loss for DLA Piper since its cross-Atlantic merger, which also took place on 1 January.
Jefferson specialises in private equity work as well as general corporate, including management buyins and buyouts (MBOs). He advised recently on the MBO of the Rosebys division of the Homestyle Group.
Jefferson's hire marks a new phase in Halliwells' investment in the Liverpool area. Managing partner Ian Austin said that, even before the merger with Cuff Roberts had been finalised, the firm had started looking for new partners. "We're going to carry on recruiting and investing and building up that office," he insisted.
Austin believes that Halliwells' corporate practice is key to the region and the firm's development nationally.
