Hallett LJ to chair Judicial Studies Board

Lady Justice Hallett has been appointed as chair of the Judicial Studies Board (JSB) for a three-year term.

Hallett LJ, who is currently presiding over the inquest into the 7 July 2005 London bombings, was only the fifth woman judge to be appointed to the Court of Appeal.

She is widely perceived as a possible successor to the Lord Chief Justice.

The Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge appointed Hallett LJ to succeed Lord Justice Maurice Kay, who will become vice president of the Court of Appeal for a three-year term. Kay LJ, who chaired the JSB for three years, will replace Lord Justice Waller, who stands down after a four-year term.
