Intelligent Finance, Halifax's spin-off telephone and internet bank, which is based in Edinburgh, has appointed Roddy Garden as director of legal and compliance.
Garden formerly headed the bank's legal team and his new position reflects the increased regulatory compliance work undertaken by financial institutions. He said: "I'm delighted to be joining the executive team at Intelligent Finance in what's going to be an exciting period as we expand the business." His new role draws together the separate legal and compliance departments and will entail a mooted restructuring of the team. Garden has worked in-house for Halifax for a decade, having joined as its first full-time commercial lending lawyer in 1991. During his time at the bank, he has headed the retail lending section and become involved in fundamental changes to the former building society.
