A national network for sports lawyers is being proposed by the solicitor for First Division football club Grimsby Town.William King wants to set up an association which would provide a nationwide link between all the lawyers who work in this expanding sector. The body would provide an information and work exchange for its members, and would offer an effective quality guarantee for clients of the member solicitors.King, partner with Grimsby firm Beetenson & Gibbon, envisages a group which is formed along the lines of the Environmental Law Foundation. He believes there is a massive demand for legal work from clients apart from the well-publicised wealthy organisations and individuals who hire expensive lawyers.King, who also acts for a number of golf and health clubs, said: "It is an area of the marketplace which is under-lawyered."The people needing advice will very quickly be sent to those who aren't in tune with what they are doing."King is a member of the British Association for Sport and the Law, but feels that a new group is needed which exclusively represents the interests of practitioners.Further information is available from William King on 01472 240251.The British Association of Sport and Law is holding its annual conference on 21 October, at the Old Hall, Lincoln's Inn.
