Grainger turns to Cushman & Wakefield for in-house counsel
UK residential landlord Grainger has appointed Adam McGhin as its first-ever group legal counsel.

The new role is part of an expansion of the business’s nine-member company secretariat, which includes legal and treasury and compliance and risk. McGhin will report into company secretary Nick On and his first task will be to create a panel.
McGhin joins from property consultant Cushman & Wakefield, where he was deputy general counsel for Europe, Middle East and Africa and prior to that a senior associate at Clifford Chance.
Cushman & Wakefield has appointed former Allen & Overy associate Katherine Chainey to replace McGhin, this comes alongside the recruitment of Andrew Edwards from DLA Piper into the EMEA legal team. They both report into European counsel Rachel Crook.
“London’s the hub responsible for legal advice across the EMEA region,” said Crook. “We also do work abroad where the contracts are written in English. Most of our work is non-UK based.”
McGhin, who hails from the North East, will return to the region to work out of Grainger’s head office in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

An excellent appointment.
I hope he applies genuine vfm considerations when he assembles the new Grainger plc panel.
For way too long, legal panels in the big North East companies have been Geordie Gentlemen's arrangements where it's about local contacts are more important than being the best provider of legal services.
Be brave McGhin.
