Gosschalks pays tribute to leading licensing partner

Leading licensing lawyer Richard Leslie Green has died aged 56.

Green, who was senior partner at Hull firm Gosschalks, died on 21 April.

He was ranked as one of the country's leading licensing experts, with a reputation as an outstanding lawyer and a major player in his field.

Green had been with 27-partner Gosschalks since 1970. He became senior partner in 1993.

Managing partner Dick Llewellyn says: "Les Green was a brilliant advocate. From the day he first joined us, it was clear that Les was larger than life, a truly extrovert character.

"In keeping with this, he was a great raconteur and storyteller."

Green was from London and initially went to the North East in 1965 to study law at Hull University. He returned to the capital after graduating to qualify at Pettit & Westlake.

A year after finishing his articles he returned to Hull and joined Gosschalks, becoming a partner in 1972.

The firm is recognised as one of the country's leading licensing firms. Green acted as the sole licensing adviser to the William Hill Organisation and a number of other major companies.

Gosschalks will decide on the new senior partner following the funeral on 28 April.

He leaves a wife and two sons.
