Yorkshire firm Gordons has snagged Eversheds Leeds partner Richard Piper to head up its construction team.
Piper’s hire is the first since Gordons merged with Leeds-based Nelson & Co in May 2004, and brings the number of partners at the firm to 39. He will start work at Gordons on 31 October this year.
Clients Piper has advised at Eversheds include Asda, T-Mobile and construction group Dew Pitch Mastic. He has particular expertise in construction-related telecoms work.
Piper said: "It’s a compelling and exciting opportunity to build a specialist engineering and construction practice within a firm which boasts such a strong real estate practice itself.
"My plans are going to be to grow significantly the construction capability within Gordons on both the contentious and non-contentious side of things."
He added that his move from Eversheds was entirely amicable.
Gordons’ managing partner Paul Ayre said the past year had been the firm’s best ever, with turnover reaching the £16m mark, and that Piper’s appointment would help it grasp future opportunities for growth.
