Pinsent Masons legal director Struan Robertson is leaving the firm later this month to join Google’s legal team as product counsel
as the internet giant continues its recruitment drive in London.

Struan Robertson
Robertson, a well-known figure in the technology sector, will join the search engine on 24 January.
He joined Pinsents from Scottish firm Semple Fraser in 2000, at which time he was also appointed editor of Pinsents’ technology
and e-commerce website Out-Law.com.
The move will see Robertson, who began his career as a corporate lawyer before moving into the technology arena, relocate from Pinsents’ base in Glasgow to Google’s London office.
Speaking of the move Robertson said: “It’s with a heavy heart that I must say goodbye to my friends at Pinsents as well as to the users of Out-Law.com.
“Working on the website has been a rewarding and tremendously enjoyable experience for me, but it’s time to move on.”
Pinsents partner and Out-Law.com co-founder John Salmon said: “We wish [Robertson] all the best in his new role and I’m sure that he’ll be a real asset to Google.”
As part of a major recruitment drive Google is also in the process of bulking up its commercial, competition licensing, copyright and employment legal teams.

I searched the Google jobs page in summer last year and wondered what sort of person would get the Product Counsel job - the answer is the right person for the job!
I hope Out-Law continues to build on the success it has enjoyed with Struan's backing!
