Seyfarth Shaw

Turnover:£184.9m
Profit per equity partner:£330,000
Revenue per Lawyer £291,000
Total number of lawyers: 639

Chicago-based Seyfarth Shaw consolidated its position in the The Lawyer Global 100 with its takeover of local rival D’Ancona & Pflaum in 2003.

As a result, the firm rose 11 places from 91st to 80th position in 2004, recording a revenue of £172m ($313m). But in 2005 the firm appeared to have had difficulty getting the most out of the merger, and, despite the 40 extra lawyers, Seyfarth dropped one place to 81.

Its revenue stands at £184.9m ($336.5m), meaning revenue per lawyer only rose by £5,500 ($10,000) to £291,000 ($530,000).

To help the with the integration process, this year the firm moved into combined Chicago offices, a move which should help unify the split headquarters of Seyfarth.

Seyfarth’s other main priority is to grow its presence on the East Coast. In 2005 the firm hired of counsel Robert Rubin and partner Sarah Biser in the New York office’s construction practice group from boutique firm Postner & Rubin.
