The Lawyer Global 100

Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker

Turnover:£366.5m
Profit per equity partner:£728,000
Revenue per lawyer:£420,000
Total number of lawyers:871

A respectable 9.5 per cent rise in total revenue, to £366.5 ($667m), at Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker was not enough for the firm to hang onto the one place it had gained in 2004 in the Global 100 table.

The firm moved back to 28th while its average profit per equity partner figure did slightly better, with the firm staying at 27 with a 13 per cent rise to £728,000 ($1.33m).

The Los Angeles-based firm has been on a major expansion drive over the past couple of years, both nationally and internationally. Towards the end of 2006, Paul Hastings revealed it was preparing to enter the Chicago market with a number of hires and was also looking at a similar move in Germany.

The moves followed office launches in Milan and Palo Alto in 2005 and its mergers with Tokyo-based firm Taiyo Law Office in September last year and Hong Kong and China-based firm Koo & Partners in 2002.

In London Paul Hastings was targeting at least a 20 per cent rise in revenue for 2006 following a string of hires in its core real estate and corporate practice areas.
