This Chicago-based litigation powerhouse had a markedly improved 2005, increasing its turnover by some 13 per cent to hit £158m ($287.5m). It was enough to move Jenner & Block up five places at the bottom end of The Lawyer Global 100 2006 against stiff competition.
The average profit per equity partner result was not quite as impressive, but still respectable, as it posted a 7.5 per cent increase to reach £390,000 ($710,000).
The result was nevertheless a good one for managing partner Greg Gallopoulos, who took over the reins for 2005 and oversaw the firm’s expansion to New York in November, its fourth office. Jenner also maintains premises in Washington DC and Dallas, besides its Windy City base.
In the context of its history, the 13 per cent growth was a spike for slow and steady Jenner & Block. The firm has traditionally shunned quick expansion and flashy headline-grabbing hires, and Gallopoulos – who has spent his whole career at the firm – isn’t about to rock the boat.
The launch of New York came without any lateral hires – the firm moved native New Yorkers from its other offices back home, and has grown slowly, with just 11 partners.
