Holland & Knight remains committed to expanding internationally despite having had a difficult time holding its own in the US national marketplace.
This year the firm's 1,170 lawyers brought in a total of £319.5m ($581.5m), despite proposing plans to close offices in Providence, Rancho Santa Fe, San Antonio and Seattle.
The firm overhauled its practice area management structure, replacing its existing office practice group heads with firmwide heads and redrafting the partnership agreement to introduce tougher criteria for entering the partnership.
At the same time, the firm merged its Annapolis office into its Washington DC group, its Bradenton, Lakeland and St Petersburg offices into its Tampa group and Oakbrook Terrace into Chicago.
Globally, the firm has a presence in Beijing, Tokyo and Mexico City with affiliated offices in Tel Aviv, Helsinki and Caracas.
In 2004, Holland & Knight set up a strategic alliance relationship with Brazilian firm Evaldo Ramos-Advogados Associados that let the firm into the financial centres of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. But the relationship was terminated a year later in 2005.
