Eversheds continued to expand its international alliances during the past year, linking up with both Dublin-based O'Donnell Sweeney and German firm Heisse Kursawe in 2005.
The firm's alliance partners are financially independent, so did not contribute to Eversheds' 6 per cent turnover growth, to £323m ($587.9m), or its £422,000 ($768,000) average profit per equity partner (PEP).
The 20.5 per cent increase in PEP came as the firm's partnership shrank by eight between 2005 and 2006, with Eversheds ending the year with seven fewer equity partners.
However, the current financial year will see the input of the firm's new Shanghai office, its first Chinese venture. The office opening comes a year after Eversheds dissolved its alliance with Singapore firm Khattar Wong & Partners.
Eversheds kicked off its China office with three lawyers, including former Linklaters consultant Peter Corne. Corne brought with him heavyweight clients including Coca-Cola and Mitsui, giving the firm's practice a kickstart in the region.
