Washington DC firm Arnold & Porter had a sluggish year, recording income growth of 2.5 per cent, to £255.8m ($465.5m), and an average profit per equity increase of less than 1 per cent, to £459,000 ($835,000).
Between 2004 and 2005 Arnold & Porter shed 56 lawyers globally, but did embark on a hiring spree in New York during 2005. The firm hired eight partners from Dorsey & Whitney and six lawyers from Fulbright & Jaworski in January, followed by two Thelen Reid & Priest partners in April.
Internationally, London and Brussels remain the firm's only non-US operations. In September 2005 Arnold & Porter's London office brought in dual English and Indian qualified Murali Neelakantan to add an Indian capability at the same time as boosting its UK M&A offering.
