South-east London firm Glazer Delmar has launched a commercial property department with its first hire.
Licensed conveyancer Terry King has formerly worked at Nabarro Nath-anson and Memery Crystal. King’s hire comes just six months after the firm took on its first head of employment and commercial, Sue Ziegler.
The hires are part of a wider shift away from legal aid and immigration work. At present, legal aid work accounts for between 60 and 70 per cent of Glazer Delmar’s workload.
Founding partner Michael Glazer said: “The precarious nature of the Legal Services Commission has forced us to look at whether we can be a firm with a social conscience. It’s part and parcel of a business plan that has included the development of our social housing department and the introduction of commercial departments.”
The firm’s residential property team has five solicitors working with local estate agents. The new commercial and commercial property departments will target small businesses in the South East. “We want to be considered not a Peckham firm, but a South East firm,” Glazer said.
