Gibson Dunn strengthens New York with Bingham hire

Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has added to its New York office by poaching Bingham McCutchen’s co-chair of project and structured finance.

Nicholas Politan will join Gibson Dunn’s energy group as a partner.

Politan is the second significant lateral hire in structured finance the West Coast firm has managed to lure to its New York office in as many months.

In October, Gibson Dunn took on the joint head of Jones Day’s global lending and structured finance, Robert Cunningham. Cunningham now heads the firm’s global finance practice.

Gibson Dunn has 265 equity partners who enjoy an average profit of $1.64m (£869,000). It now has 155 lawyers in New York, making it the firm’s second-biggest office.

The firm’s managing partner, Ken Doran, said in a statement: ““The continued growth of our New York office remains a strategic priority for the firm, and Nick will be a terrific addition to our New York platform.”

Bingham McCutchen is yet to name a replacement to Politan.
