US firm Gibson Dunn has hired Clifford Chance partner Philip Rocher to establish a litigation capability in London for the first time.
Rocher, who has aa well-known practice in reinsurance and auditor liability, joined the Los Angeles firm’s London office this month with a team of three assistants. He said: “There are very firm intentions to grow.”
The blue-chip firm has opted for cautious expansion in Europe, but Rocher’s hire may signal a change in pace.
He is the third lateral hire in the space of the year, following Clifford Chance US securities partner Alan Bannister and Jones Day Gouldens finance head Tom Budd.
Gibson Dunn London managing partner Andrew Thomas said: “We’ve got the foundations now and a bedrock which allows us to expand.”
