Gibson Dunn hires Travers tax partner

The London office of Los Angeles firm Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has taken on a tax partner from Travers Smith Braithwaite.

UK-qualified Nicholas Aleksander will assist US, UK and French tax partner Wendy Singer and US-qualified Anthony Bonanno in the corporate tax department

Gibson Dunn’s global managing partner Wesley Howell says: “We are extremely excited to have Nicholas, who will enhance the tax team and add another dimension to our UK tax capability.”

Travers’ head of tax Alasdair Douglas says: “On an operational level, it is a happy coincidence that I am returning to full-time fee earning in our tax department after completing a stint as managing partner.”

Aleksander is Travers’ third lateral hire since Nomura’s former chief counsel Stephen Ball was appointed head of the UK practice in April, following Andrew Thomas from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld (The Lawyer, 8 May) and Judith Shepherd from Stephenson Harwood (The Lawyer, 29 March).
