Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) is rolling out a winter vacation scheme for the first time, forcing its trainee recruitment process to open early.
For a chance to get on BLP’s programme, aspiring lawyers will have to apply in October, with the submission doubling as a training contract application for successful candidates.
Graduate recruitment adviser Sarah Burson said: “This is an opportunity for key and informed students to get on our radar earlier, and for more to get hands-on exposure at the firm.
“It adds a string to our bow and will hopefully attract a good number of students who are interested in doing work experience before their exams.”
The scheme is due to start on 12 December 2011, with the firm hoping to take on between 15 and 20 penultimate and final-year students for the one-week programme.
Similar to BLP’s Easter and summer vacation schemes, students will be placed in a department of their choice and attend a programme of workshops.
The initiative follows the introduction of a three-day ’insight programme’ for first-year university students. The scheme will be run in addition to BLP’s dedicated open day.
Elsewhere, the firm has decided to follow in other leading law firms’ footsteps by shifting its summer vacation scheme dates to avoid clashing with the London Olympics next year.
Its summer placements will now take the format of one one-week placement and two two-week placements that will sit either side of the Olympics.
