Germany's Luther launches City office

German independent Luther is launching a representative office in London, joining a number of other German firms present in the UK

The firm will take office space in the building used by non-exclusive US best friend Faegre Baker Daniels (formerly Faegre & Benson), after turning down a deal to use Berwin Leighton Paisner’s premises following the City firm’s German launch (19 September 2011).

The firm, one of Germany’s largest, has offices in 11 German cities and six abroad, including Brussels and Luxembourg, but has recently been forced to make cuts in Mannheim, Hungary and Turkey.

It is transferring M&A head Markus Schackmann to London to lead the 5-person office. He will be accompanied by corporate partner Julia Petersen.

The firm is understood to hiring a duo of partners from a German firm’s London office who previously worked with Luther lawyers at now-defunct Andersen Legal, from which Luther emerged.

Recent UK launches by German firms include the arrival of shipping boutique Ehlermann Rindfleisch Gadow in November (10 November 2011) and full-service firm Noerr in 2010 (11 March 2010).
