Geldards

UK 200 position: 103

Turnover at Cardiff-headquartered Geldards remained static in 2011–12 at £21m.

The lack of corporate activity was keenly felt at the firm, which saw the corporate department’s contribution drop to 14 per cent of 2012–13 turnover, down from 21 per cent the previous year.

However, in keeping with the firm’s strength in public sector work, Geldards succeeded in being one of only five firms reappointed to the Welsh government’s slimmed-down legal panel in 2012.

Geldards focuses primarily on corporate, commercial, property and dispute resolution matters. The firm’s litigation team performed particularly well last year, posting a 24 per cent contribution to total revenue. The firm plans to make several laterals in this area, according to finance director Jonathan Dancey.

The equity partnership dropped from 22 to 20, a change that is reflected in the average profit per equity partner figure, nudging up from £227,000 to £230,000 even though net profit remained static at £5,000. Geldards continues to operate a modified 10-step lockstep.

Geldards has offices in Cardiff, Derby and Nottingham.
