BPP Law School student Vicki Hawkins is gearing up to represent Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics.
The part-time distance learning Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) student will be participating in the water polo competition and told Lawyer2B.com that her team, which failed to qualify for the Beijing games, is going for gold.
“You can’t go to the Olympics and aim for anything other than gold. We’ve come a long way in the past five years including winning the European B Championships,” explained Hawkins.
“I’m incredibly excited as this is what we’ve been working towards for the past five years,” she added.
Hawkins, who has a PhD in chemical engineering, eventually hopes to specialise in intellectual property law but is yet to secure a training contract.
“When I was doing my PhD one of my colleagues was doing a lot of work with patents and that’s when I became interested in this area of law,” explained Hawkins.
But she admitted that combining five hours of training with the GDL is incredibly hard work and leaves her with little time to wind down.
