Gazprom turns to Hunton UK for TruRead investment

The UK office of Hunton & Williams has won a mandate from trophy client Gazprom, advising its UK subsidiary on the purchase of an equity stake in smart metering company TruRead.

Under ;advice ;from Hunton partner Matthew Williams, Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GM&T) bought a stake in TruRead, which provides technology that enables meters for gas, electricity and water to be read remotely.

Williams said: "Establishing this new technology in the market will further show GM&T's strategy of being a global leader in groundbreaking ;new technology and alternative energy services."

Williams' team worked closely with GM&T senior legal counsel Julian Bradley, while TruRead turned to North Staffordshire firm Grindeys and corporate partner Stephen Grocott.

Hunton won its first mandate from Gazprom in July 2006, advising the Russian gas giant on its move into the UK market.
